Aka Ike tent site

Located on the banks of Aka Ike pond in Madarao Kogen, and about 300 meters off the Shin-etsu Trail. It’s also about five minutes on foot from the parking lot. Toilet and water facilities are available in the parking lot area. The water is drawn from a stream, so use a water purifier or boil the water for three minutes before using for drinking.

Katsura Ike tent site

A small tent site located between Katsura Ike pond and Nakafuru Ike pond, able to accommodate five tents. It is in a pleasant grassy setting, and also has a hut that can be used for shelter in stormy weather. The Taro Shimizu spring is about 300 meters south of the site and can be used as a water source, but note that the spring may dry up in periods of low rain. Water can be drawn from Katsura Ike pond, but it must be purified or boiled for three minutes before being used for drinking water. The toilet is located in a vacant area just above the tent site.

Hikari ga Hara campground

This tent site is located in Hikarigahara Kogen, a 15-minute walk from the Shin-etsu Trail down to the Niigata side. Toilets and water source are available on site.
Hikarigahara Kogen is at an altitude of 800 to 1,100 meters above sea level, and the view of the Kubiki Plain below is exceptional. On fine days, you can see Sado Island and the Noto Peninsula in the distance. You can also enjoy the sunset over the Sea of Japan and the night view of Joetsu.
*The building on the premises (Green Pal Kogenso) is currently closed.

Nonomi Kogen tent site

Located just off the Shin-etsu Trail on the banks of Nonoumi Ike pond. It’s about 30 minutes on foot from Nonoumi Toge pass, and about 10 minutes from Misaka Toge pass. The kitchen area does have a water supply, although the source is in the wetland, which may dry up in summer. In this case, water from Nonoumi Ike pond or nearby streams can be used, but must be purified or boiled for three minutes. Toilets are located close to the tent site.

Koakasawa Rakuyokan tent site

It is attached to the Koakazawa Onsen Rakuyokan. Water sources, toilets, and a restaurant are available. Guests can enjoy the good hot spring too so it is a rare tent site along the Shin-etsu trail that has multiple functions at the site. You can also enjoy a variety of hiking plans by staying at the other guest houses nearby.
